Tasting Notes

Few names carry as much weight in Australian Riesling as Grosset, and the 2026 Springvale shows why. It comes from a single vineyard at 450–470 metres, one of the highest sites in Watervale. The vineyard is certified organic and biodynamic and is tended entirely by hand.  In the glass, the wine opens with lifted lemon-lime zest, lime leaf and green apple, along with white flowers and a gentle hint of fennel. The palate is juicy and generous up front, then tightens into fine, mineral-driven acidity. It finishes long, dry and chalky, a clear signature of its limestone and slate soils.

Harvest:Hand-tended and hand-harvested. Three Riesling clones, low yield of about 2.5 bottles per vine.Each bunch is picked at its best ripeness, and the clones add complexity.

Viticulture:Single vineyard (Springvale, Watervale). 6 ha, planted 2000–03, at 450–470 m, one of the highest sites in Watervale. Altitude gives cool nights, so the grapes keep natural acidity and bright fruit. Thin red loam over limestone, with vines rooted down into slate.

Food Pairing:Freshly shucked oysters, sashimi, kingfisher ceviche, grilled prawns with lime, salt and pepper squid, Thai green papaya salad, Vietnamese rice paper rolls, Thai green curry, Peking duck pancakes.
