Single vineyard wine from the oldest and best parcels.

Harvest:2024 will be remembered for its dry, warm conditions from spring through to vintage. Good winter rains finished as soon as spring arrived, staying dry from then on. A number of warmer than average weeks in late January/early February pushed harvest forward by a number of weeks. This produced a small crop of great intensity. The fruit was harvested between 16th February and 1st March in the cool of the early morning.

Winemaking:In the winery small ferments with an increasing focus on spontaneous fermentation and barrel ferment (with many parcels not exceeding 1,000Ltrs).

People talk about the power of Burgundy. We should be talking about the power of Frankland River Riesling. More specifically, Frankland Estate’s Single Vineyard Rieslings. Winemaker Brian Kent is pushing the boundaries of ripeness, whilst still retaining the mouth-watering acid we love from Riesling. The 2023 vintage definitely has one cowboy boot firmly planted in Germany-yehaaah! One of my favourite wines of the year. The palate is dense with lime cordial, taut grapefruit, and candied ginger. A wine you can still taste the following day. All elements, separately, are wildly intense, yet together, they create physical poetry in your mouth. The wine’s better than sex. Taut and pure, it’s almost as if you can taste the biodynamic farming and crisp Great Southern air.

The Real Review

Light lemon colour. Cumquat, lime zest and crushed shell aromas. Intensity and focus are the first things noted as it drives across the palate. Notes of exotic flowers, lime and slate sit in the core while it brims with fine, racy acidity and touches of phenolic grip into the incredibly long finish. A superb riesling to drink now and for many years into the future.
