Tasting Notes

Adam's Rib Red is made mostly with Syrah and Nebbiolo with a minor portion of Sangiovese. All estate-grown. It works for both its savouriness and for its fruitiness. It's all woodsy spice and blue-black berries and while there isn't a great deal of tannin it feels well-framed and sustained. It's medium weight, rises on blood orange acidity, and cranberry juice flavours.

Reviews and Accolades

The Real Review - Huon Hooke

Medium-depth red with a tinge of purple; dried plum and smoked spice aromas (clove; star anise), vestiges of cherry more evident on palate, where it is lean and sinewy, dry and mineral, as opposed to fruity. It's more about nebbiolo than shiraz. A wine that would come into its own with appropriate food. Very appealing.

Julian and Carolann Castagna left their careers in the film industry to establish Castagna Vineyard. They aimed to create unique wines capturing the essence of Côte-Rôtie, a style then rare in Australia. Located in Northeast Victoria, the vineyard, certified organic and biodynamic, features Syrah vines planted in 1997, descendants of 1850s Rhone stock. With a focus on quality over quantity, their meticulous approach includes hand-pruning, hand-picking, traditional winemaking techniques, and careful aging in French oak. The vineyard's biodynamic practices highlight the granitic-loam soil's minerality, and they utilize rare genetic material from Australia to craft exceptional wines. The vineyard's continental climate and unique soil composition further contribute to their distinctive wines. Castagna Vineyard has successfully carved out its niche in the world of wine.
