Tasting Notes

Côte de Fonroque, Château Fonroque’s second wine, is a highly desirable expression, particularly in an exceptional vintage such as 2016. The clay-rich soils provide power, depth and longevity, while the limestone contributes freshness and a distinctive mineral character. The 2016 vintage is marked by remarkable balance, with every element beautifully integrated. Predominantly Merlot, the wine offers rich, concentrated fruit, refined tannins and the elegance and finesse that define Fonroque.

Harvest:An improbable vintage shaped by contrasts. An exceptionally wet spring was followed by a hot, intensely dry summer. After a challenging start, a brief window of favourable weather ensured successful flowering, while timely September rain refreshed the vines and allowed the harvest to reach optimum maturity. A rare vintage defined by resilience, balance and exceptional conditions.

Winemaking:Côte de Fonroque is aged for 16 months, with 70% matured in oak. This careful élevage enhances the wine’s depth and structure while preserving the freshness

Viticulture:The vineyards are planted on limestone plateaus and limestone-clay hillsides, giving the wine its distinctive freshness, minerality and structure.

Food Pairing:Beef cheeks, lamb, duck with cherry, beef Wellington, mushroom/truffle dishes, and aged cheeses.
