Gaudry's wines are known for their initial restraint, requiring some time in the bottle to fully reveal their diverse array of aromas and complex nuances. This rings particularly true for this wine, characterized by delicate flinty notes on the nose, accompanied by hints of lemon juice, lime, sage, and hay. It maintains a remarkable compactness, underpinned by a well-developed acidity structure, promising a subtle quality with significant aging potential.

The 2019 Sancerre Mélodie de Vieilles Vignes is from 50- to 90-year-old vines on very shallow Kimmeridgian clay soils (terres blanches) covering adamant limestone bedrock in Sury-en-Vaux. The nose and palate reveal a clear, lean, restrained yet precise and stony, tightly structured and refreshing Sancerre with grip, tension and sustainable lemon zest notes on the salty-mineral finish.
