Michel Chapoutier, an unconventional visionary, challenging tradition and passionately embracing biodynamics. Dedicated to expressing the soil's essence, his philosophy is deeply rooted in the land. Draped in a deep golden yellow hue, Ermitage “De l’Orée”exudes intensity. Its aroma is a vivid tapestry of sun-warmed shingles, rich toffee, and lusciously ripe lemon, interwoven with the floral fragrances of acacia and hawthorn. The palate embarks on a well-rounded journey, revealing layers of ripe fruits, subtle spices, and hints of roasting. Its finish lingers, ultimately refreshing the senses.

Harvest:Hand-picked grapes to small perforated boxes of 15 kg.

Winemaking:After pressing, the must is cold-settling for around 24 hours. About 50% is vinified in big wooden barrels (600 liters) with regular stirrings of the lees, the rest is in vats.

Viticulture:The grapes producing “De l’Orée” come from “Les Murets” plot. This soil is made up with very old fluvioglacial alluvial deposits

James Suckling

Very complex, dried yellow flowers, flinty yellow citrus and papaya on the nose. There's a lot wrapped into this wine. The palate has an extremely powerful, juicy and athletic feel with assertive phenolics matched to vibrant acidity and a pithy, compressed finish.

The thickest, most unctuous, full-bodied and sexy white of the vintage is the 2014 Ermitage de l’Orée. Coming all from the sedimentary soils of the Les Murets and aged mostly in demi-muids (only 15% new), it offers a sensational perfume of caramelized peaches, campfire, honeysuckle and white flowers that literally come soaring from the glass. Possessing uncommon density, a stacked mid-palate, loads of sweet fruit and a blockbuster finish, this hedonistic effort can be drunk with incredibly pleasure today, or cellared for a decade or more. It will have three or more decades of overall longevity.

This immediately exhibits the spellbinding, rich complexity that characterises this Hermitage cuvée. A really special, luxurious aromatic display that includes mango and raw cream. It’s full-bodied, with all the puppy fat that you might expect from de l'Orée. The oak is well integrated, contributing silk and spice notes, adding to the complexity. This is sublime. So long and fresh, just a perfect expression of white Hermitage. It’s rich, but somehow without heaviness. Just absolutely gorgeous.
