Tasting Notes

Dark chocolate and inky black fruit aromas coexist with a lifted floral and crushed leaf scent on the nose of this dense and interesting wine. On the palate, there are flavours of roasted black fruit that are full and flavoursome. Balance and elegance are maintained by the robust structural tannins and excellent acidity. This wine is enjoyable to drink now and will continue to develop complexity and finesse with time in the cellar.

Winemaking:The grapes were destemmed. Fermentation was with wild yeast from the vineyard. The wine spent sometime macerating on its skins to achieve balance and was then pressed using a traditional basket press. During the winter and spring the wine components developed in oak barrels before being blended and then returned to oak barrels to mature until balanced and ready to bottle. The wine was lightly fined with organic egg whites.

Viticulture:Gimblett Gravels region is known for producing high-quality wines that are complex and flavorful, thanks to the unique terroir and warm climate of the area.

Inspired by William Murdoch, who served as a Coldstream regiment guardsman in the 1890s, their ethos revolves around integrity, harmony, and authenticity. His values and the family motto, "Omine Secundo" (under favourable omen), led Brett Murdoch to establish the brand in his honour. Gimblett Gravels’ free-draining soil and temperate climate facilitate Bordeaux-style grapes, producing full-flavoured, premium wines.
