For over a decade, Quentin and Louis Modat have dedicated themselves to cultivating organic and biodynamic grapes. They are on a continuous quest for improvement, pioneering innovative viticultural practices centered around the well-being of the vines. Their methods include cover crops, fostering biodiversity, pastoralism, gentle pruning, traditional grafting, and natural plant-based treatments. The Domaine Modat Comme Avant 2017 presents a harmonious bouquet featuring luscious fruit notes interwoven with hints of spice and florals. The palate is a delightful medley of red fruits, pepper, paprika, cinnamon, and a subtle smokiness. It offers a light, velvety texture and refreshing, spicy flavors."

Winemaking:Grapes are table-sorted, gently de-stemmed, three-day low-temperature maceration to extract the fruit. This is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation and an 18-20 day maceration with gentle punching down.

Viticulture:Situated at an elevation of 400 meters, nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees Mountains, this location enjoys unique conditions in the Agly Valley.

Robert Parker

A blend of 70% Carignan and 30% Syrah, the 2017 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Caramany Comme Avant aged in a mix of tank and barriques, with a tiny proportion of new oak. It's ripe and dark-fruited, with blackberries and blueberries accented by hints of dark chocolate, peppery spice and perhaps just a bit of cedar. Full-bodied and intense, it's almost creamy on the palate, its flavors fading slowly on the long, supple finish.
