Tasting Notes

In 2021, winemaker Mike Lemmes, navigating cooler growing conditions, favored the Cartographer blend over a straight cabernet sauvignon. As a result, a decision was made to forgo the production of a 2021 cabernet, directing all intended fruit, including reserve-quality parcels, into the creation of the outstanding "super vintage" Cartographer 2021. This wine, displaying a clear, bright, deep ruby red with a subtle purple hue, offers a nose with a fresh mix of floral and red fruit notes, complemented by hints of mint, spice, and gum leaf. The palate unfolds with herbaceous, dark cherry, plum, and black olive flavors, culminating in a smooth finish carried by grainy, elegant tannins.

The Wine Front - Gary Walsh

Hazelnut, brown bread, red and black fruits, dried herb. Medium-bodied, crisp and lively, nuts and dried herbs, red fruits, a bit firm and herbal in a way, but has heaps of charm and drinking appeal. Finish is brisk and savoury. Like this. Fresh and entertaining.

The Real Review - Stuart Knox

Medium ruby hue. Tomato leaf, raspberry and wakame on the nose. Good entry intensity with tobacco and red berry. Fine tannins hold the line well and take it with style and resonance into the finish. It has lovely balance and drinkability

Halliday Companion - Erin Larkin

Certified organic. 38/34/15/9/4% merlot/cabernet sauvignon/cabernet franc/malbec/petit verdot. Sweet, chocolate oak is the first thing to waft out of the glass, the fruit behind it is a cavalcade of dark forest fruits. At this stage, the oak hurries in behind it, framing the finish. While the fruit shows promise, it is too early to tell whether or not it will beat the oak to the finish line.
