Tasting Notes

Parallax is light purple-red in colour. The compelling aroma is bright and perfumed. There is strawberry, herb, sweet earth, raspberry, fresh flowers and musk. It's evolving and inviting. On the palate, it is light-bodied and bursting with fresh fruit. It is pure and vibrant with precise generosity. Red berry fruits dominate and are matched with super fine natural chalky tannins giving a seamless backbone. A touch of minerality adds further interest and dynamism. A surprisingly long finish completes a very delicious, charming and engaging wine.

Country of Origin:Australia

Winemaking Style:Traditional / low-intervention

Harvest:Vintage 2021 was an exemplary year with fine wines and good yields.

Winemaking:The grapes were crushed and all stalks were included in the fermenters to add tannin, structure and complexity. The native wild yeast from the vineyard was left to naturally ferment with a temperature peaking at 30 degrees C. Heading down boards were used in the fermenters, completely submersing the skins and stalks in the fermenting juice to ensure gentle extraction. After 10 days on skins, the must was pressed to the tank for natural malolactic fermentation and brief maturation prior to bottling.

Viticulture:Parallax is a single-vineyard wine from a low-yielding Grenache vineyard. The soil is sandy loam with quartz, ironstone and subsoil clay, providing optimal conditions for these vines.

Food Pairing:Margherita Pizza, Spaghetti Bolognese, Sausage and peppers, Vegetable Curry

The Wine Front - Mike Bennie

Sweet scented, rose hip tea and raspberries, some green herb and a touch of mixed/nondescript botanicals wafting through. Juicy-soft in the palate, medium weight, very bright, a bit sweet fruited but with fine tannin shaping things nicely and a good screw of herbs n spice to finish, lingering. Quite dark fruited in essence, but lots of freshness and tension in the mix, elevating things well. Good drinking.

Halliday Companion - Dave Brookes

It's grenache Jim, but not as we know it. Before us, is Kalleske's distinctly lo-fi take on the much-loved variety. Certified biodynamic, single-vineyard fruit, wild fermented with stalks and skins for 10 days, it cuts a decidedly funky, pinot-esque line across the tongue with Campari-like amaro and herbal nuances, souk-like spice and crunchy red-fruited verve. Wild-eyed and sapidly beguiling drinking.

The Real Review - Huon Hooke

Medium to light red colour with a tint of purple and a vegetal, bunchy and quite complex bouquet, which translates onto a medium-bodied, soft-textured palate with again a lot of vegetal bunch character allied to sweet red fruits. The whole entity is succulently fruit sweet and supple. Delicious, and almost pinot-like. (Harvested early in the season; wild fermented with stalks and skins; no oak)

Kalleske

The Kalleske family, rooted in South Australia's Barossa Valley since 1853, is known for their exceptional grape-growing across seven generations. The journey began in 1853 when they founded their farm in Moppa, a sub-district of the Barossa Valley. Today, the property encompasses vineyards, livestock, a chaff mill, and a winery, maintained by the sixth and seventh generations. In 2002, brothers Troy and Tony Kalleske established the Kalleske winery to emphasize the potential of their vineyard through traditional winemaking. Their 120-acre estate, managed by John, Lorraine, and Kym Kalleske, features a variety of grapevines, some dating back to 1875, with an impressive average vine age of 50 years. The Kalleske estate has been proudly certified organic and biodynamic since 1998, demonstrating their unwavering dedication to organic practices in both their vineyard and winery.
