Tasting Notes

Florentine is a lustrous pale straw in colour. It is immediately elevated with aromas of fresh apple, angelica perfume, gooseberry, wild plum, quince and some pineapple. The palate is bright with plenty of fresh juicy fruits. White fruits lead along with tropical notes and a touch of sherbert. There is zesty citrus acidity and an underlying minerality that combine to give a beautiful structure and backbone. The clean and radiant fruits carry through to a long and cheerful finish.

Halliday Companion - Dave Brookes

Single-vineyard chenin blanc from the Kalleske vineyard in the western Barossa, planted in 1988. Pale straw-straw in the glass with aromas of crunchy pear, melon and yellow plum with hints of almond paste, white flowers and stone. Crunchy pear fruit again on the palate, with bright acidity, plentiful drive and a gentle phenolic tweak on the dry finish.

The Real Review - Huon Hooke

Medium yellow, bright colour. The bouquet has a smoky-reductive note and a suggestion of some early development, a hint of gardenia florals and a suggestion of celery lurking behind. Perhaps a little nuttiness from subtle use of barrel. The palate is soft and round, full and broad, with the faintest trace of fruit sweetness leavening the youthful tension. Long carry. A full-flavoured dry white, and very good.

Kalleske

The Kalleske family, rooted in South Australia's Barossa Valley since 1853, is known for their exceptional grape-growing across seven generations. The journey began in 1853 when they founded their farm in Moppa, a sub-district of the Barossa Valley. Today, the property encompasses vineyards, livestock, a chaff mill, and a winery, maintained by the sixth and seventh generations. In 2002, brothers Troy and Tony Kalleske established the Kalleske winery to emphasize the potential of their vineyard through traditional winemaking. Their 120-acre estate, managed by John, Lorraine, and Kym Kalleske, features a variety of grapevines, some dating back to 1875, with an impressive average vine age of 50 years. The Kalleske estate has been proudly certified organic and biodynamic since 1998, demonstrating their unwavering dedication to organic practices in both their vineyard and winery.
