Tasting Notes

Reyneke was the first farm in South Africa to achieve certification by Demeter International, the largest, and arguably, the most widely acknowledged biodynamic accreditation body in the world. This classical Bordeaux style blend combines freshness with real concentration, showcasing the best of Stellenbosch. Intense notes of blackcurrant, star anise, thyme with underlying dark fruit complete the nose of this blend. A core of dark fruit on the palate, combined with a good tannin structure and great complexity, makes this wine linger on the palate.

Robert Parker

Made from a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Cabernet Franc and 14% Merlot, the 2017 Cornerstone displays a dark ruby core with a lighter ruby edge. Aromas of crème de cassis, dusty plum and blackberry skin, plus elements of sage, purple flowers and juicy tobacco waft out of the glass. Medium to full-bodied, this organic wine displays a balanced structure of lifting tannins before offering up elements of rosemary blossoms and black cherry skin with a persistent, dusty edge and a long, lingering and textured finish that will remain food friendly for the next decade.

Reyneke sees his farm workers as the cornerstone of the business, so proceeds of this wine help them and families with housing, education and pensions. Serious and structured, it has graphite and minty cedar tones, the oak also lending spice and firm tannins, while the generous berry fruit has a leafy freshness and mineral tarmac edge.

Reyneke

The Reyneke family established their farm in 1863. The farm's name aptly describes its breathtaking surroundings: majestic mountains to the northeast, the famous False Bay surfer's paradise to the south, and the iconic city of Cape Town to the west. Johan Reyneke, the current steward of the estate, shares a unique bond with False Bay. Had it not been for his deep-seated passion for gradually transforming his parents' farm into a biodynamic model, he might have pursued a career as a professional surfer. The journey towards biodynamic farming has been a labor of love and the celestial forces of the sun, moon, and stars. The acclaimed Cornerstone wines are part of a meaningful initiative. Not only do they offer exceptional taste, but they also contribute to a noble cause. The proceeds from these wines support the construction of homes for the workers and the education of their children, underscoring Uitzicht's commitment to both quality and community.
