Tasting Notes

The Ouzoulias family, a respected traditional Bordelais négociant, has long combined the expertise of wine purchasing, maturation, and refinement with ownership of select estates. Clos Chante l’Alouette is one of only three privately held wineries within the Grand Cru vineyards of Saint‑Émilion and has been farmed organically since. The 2016 vintage exemplifies the estate’s philosophy of producing approachable yet structured wines with excellent concentration and ageing potential. Crafted from 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc, this cuvée opens with an expressive bouquet of sour cherries, raspberries, subtle spice, and nuanced coffee notes. On the palate, it is supple and well‑balanced, delivering ripe, juicy dark fruit flavours, soft tannins, and a lingering, harmonious finish. Clos Chante l’Alouette 2016 is a quintessential right-bank Bordeaux, combining immediate charm with the capacity to develop further complexity with careful cellaring.

Viticulture:The “Chante l’Alouette” vineyard is situated on hillside slopes with Quaternary sandy soils, imparting elegance and suppleness to the wines. Vines are planted at a density of 3,000–6,000 per hectare, and the estate has been farmed organically since 1989.
