Tasting Notes

Olmo’s Reward is Frankland Estate's flagship red wine, crafted to honor Dr. Harold Olmo, a U.S.-born viticulturist who recognised the potential of the Frankland River region for Bordeaux-style blends. Lifted aromas of bay leaves, spices, cedar, earth, black fruits, and tobacco leaves. Medium weight with highly concentrated fruit, fine chalky tannins, and perfectly tuned oak supporting through to a long finish.

Wine Ageing:Post-fermentation, the wine is aged for 15 months in a combination of large oak vessels and smaller barrels, enhancing its complexity and integrating oak nuances.

Winemaking Style:Minimal intervention

Winemaking:Each variety was fermented separately, as slowly as possible at temperatures not exceeding 27°C. Open fermentation tanks facilitated working the cap with gentle plunging, taking care to minimise tannin extraction. After fermentation, an extended maceration period allowed desired flavour and tannin resolution.

Viticulture:All grapes are sourced from the estate’s Isolation Ridge Vineyard. The vineyard benefits from organic farming practices, with soils that contribute to the wine's elegance and structure.

Food Pairing:Grilled sausages, barbecued ribs, Roast Lamb

A wine which honours the significant contribution of Dr Harold Olmo in the early stages of the new era of the WA wine industry. It’s a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. In this case it has the highest proportion of Cabernet Franc ever used in the blend. This wine has a beautiful lift of red fruit on the nose with leafy graphite nuances. Medium weight but with highly concentrated fruit, it rolls majestically across the palate with fine chalky tannins and perfectly tuned oak supporting through to a long finish.

The fragrance of Franc, with support most importantly from Merlot, presents a lifted and fine-boned style of sweet fruit presence. Epic. Franc tannins of super fine-ground structure and grand endurance define a finish of benchmark line and length. The greatest Olmo’s I’ve tasted yet.
