Tasting Notes

Hand-harvested late in the season, Gaia by Grosset exhibits both finesse and controlled power, with bright plummy and boysenberry flavours framed by a tight structural core and supple, satisfying tannins, culminating in impressive depth and a lingering, elegant finish. Since the 1980s, the winery’s founding vision has been to craft an elegant, balanced, and vibrant Cabernet from the region’s coolest site, a focus that continues to define Gaia, vintage by vintage, each release showing refinement and consistency that build on the last.

Halliday Wine Companion

Mike Bennie

A modest weight to the wine, a crispness to fruit character, a silty web of fine tannin, effusive perfume of blackcurrant, dried Italian herbs, green olive, dried twigs and leaves. It's an attractive wine, energetic and a little peaky in its freshness and edginess right now, needing time to mellow and mesh somewhat, though you see quality of fruit and finesse underlying. It distinctly needs time to soften.

Grosset Wines

Grosset Wines is a small family-run operation in the Clare Valley. Now in its fifth decade, both winery and vineyards are A-Grade Certified Organic and Biodynamic (ACO). story began with a vision that wouldn’t let go: a 15-year-old Jeffrey Grosset captivated by the simple yet profound image of hands planting a vine cutting into soil. That moment planted a seed that would grow into an unwavering belief—exceptional wine starts with choosing precisely the right place and nurturing it with meticulous care. The unwavering vision is to create pure expressions of variety and place. The four estate owned vineyards, all planted by Grosset, are located in high altitude country of the Clare Valley. Each site is selected for its potential to produce pure persistent, delicious wines. Production is tiny. Authenticity is assured.
