Tasting Notes

A masterful blend of 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay, this champagne is enriched by 40% reserve wines and matured gracefully for over 30 months on lees. Without any dosage or, as Benoit discreetly mentions, added sulphur, it bursts forth with fragrant Pinot Noir fruits, intertwining layers of deep mineral complexities. Fresh red apple, subtle mushroom hints, and a touch of oak rise to the occasion. The palate is greeted with luscious red apple and berry essences, transitioning seamlessly into a refined mineral touch, culminating in a vibrant, tangy finish. Despite its Brut Nature classification, its inherent sweetness and ripeness are strikingly profound.

Robert Parker

Lahaye's NV Brut Nature Grand Cru is derived from holdings in Bouzy (which represents 80% of the blend) and Ambonnay, which he feels are better blended than bottled separately. Offering up a complex bouquet of yellow orchard fruit, toasted nuts and dried white flowers, the wine is medium to full-bodied, racy and precise, with fine depth at the core, a delicate mousse and a chalky, sapid finish.

Benoit Lahaye

Benoit Lahaye wears the hat of a farmer before that of a winemaker. His journey began in 1993 when he assumed control of his family's domaine, marking a pivotal shift in viticulture. He embarked on a transformation, first transitioning from pesticide usage to certified organic practices and then further to the demanding realm of biodynamic certification. This transition was anything but simple, especially in the context of Champagne's extreme northern climate, which can pose formidable challenges to biodynamic viticulture. In fact, the expanse of certified organic vineyards stands at a mere 1% of the total land in the region. Benoit Lahaye's steadfast commitment to organic and biodynamic practices in such a demanding environment underscores his unwavering dedication to sustainable and environmentally conscious winemaking, making him a true champion of the land.
