Tasting Notes

Château La Lagune, a distinguished Third Growth of the 1855 Médoc classification, has long been celebrated for its elegant, terroir-driven wines. The 2016 vintage exemplifies the estate’s meticulous craftsmanship and organic approach, reflecting both precision in the vineyard and finesse in the cellar. The wine displays a medium garnet-purple hue, with a nose rich in ripe blackcurrant and cassis, layered with warm cherry, subtle spice box, forest floor, and delicate bay leaf nuances. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, offering firm yet polished tannins, a complex interplay of layered dark fruits, and elegant notes of cedar and tobacco. The finish is long, refined, and persistent, capturing the hallmark balance and sophistication that have defined Château La Lagune for generations.

Another step up here, this is extremely powerful with clear tannic hold. It's closed right now, as you would hope in such a young Cru Classé, but this is full of cassis and bilberry, black truffle and exotic allspice notes. There's tons of layered complexity while never losing the estate's signature balance and elegance, as well as its juicy finish. This has bedded down and expanded over ageing, and is starting to look more like a long term contender than the 2015, although both are excellent quality. This was also the first certified organic vintage of La Lagune, with harvest going right through to October 17. Drink 2024-2044.

This is wonderful and perhaps the best La Lagune since 1982. Full body, yet the texture is amazing giving it a plush, silky texture that makes it formed and beautiful. Thick and melting in the mouth. Lots of forest floor, tar and black currant character. Very persistent finish. Energy. From organically grown grapes.
