Why is FAB's organic Spanish wine selection different from a bottle shop?
We taste every wine before it makes it onto this page. That is not a policy statement – it is how we actually work. Before any bottle appears here, a wine expert on the FAB team has opened it, assessed it against comparable bottles at the same price, and made a call on whether it earns its place. A lot of wine does not pass that test. Those bottles are not here, and you will not find them hiding on page four of the catalogue.
Spain is the country with the largest vineyard area in the world. You would not know that from the Australian market, where most of what sits under a Spanish label comes from the same handful of commercial producers, the same distribution channels, and the same approach to making wine efficiently and at scale. What we have put together here is genuinely different. The Alta Alella Cava Gran Reserva comes from one of Spain's smallest appellations - eight producers, 240 hectares, and a family that has farmed the same ancient granitic soils since 1991. The old vine Garnacha from Bodegas Tempore grows at 560 metres in Aragón on a single named plot, tended by the same family for four generations. These are not wines that a standard Australian distributor surfaces unprompted.
The range is deliberately small. We are not trying to list every organic Spanish wine available in Australia. We are trying to list the ones that are genuinely worth buying- the bottles you would not find at a bottle shop chain, the producers who are serious about their land and their craft, the wines that give you something to talk about at the table. That means gaps. There are Spanish regions and producers not yet represented here, not because they do not interest us, but because the right example has not yet passed our tasting. When it does, it will appear. A small, honest range is more useful to you than a large one padded to look comprehensive.
Where can I talk to someone about Spanish wine before I buy?
If you are browsing online and want a conversation before committing to a bottle, we are at hello@drinkfab.com.au. Ask us which Tempranillo to open alongside a slow-cooked lamb shoulder, which Cava holds its own at a dinner table next to Champagne, or which bottle from this collection makes sense as a gift for someone who already knows their wine. You will get a direct answer from someone who has tasted what they are recommending — not a category suggestion, not a promotional response.
If you are in Sydney, come into the store. We are at 202 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills, and we run daily tastings through the week. The featured wine changes each day, so Spanish wine may not be the bottle open on the counter when you arrive. That is fine - our team can still walk you through the range, talk you through the producers, and help you find what you are looking for.
A customer visited recently and wrote in his review: "Great shop with a lovely and passionate owner. If I lived in the neighbourhood this shop would be my go-to for a trusted liquor store." We think that is a fair description of what you will find. Step inside, have a look at the selection, and see what we mean by curated. The difference between this range and a standard bottle shop becomes obvious very quickly when you are standing in front of it.
The team in store knows these wines properly - the estates, the farming methods, the vintages, what to drink now and what to put aside. That kind of conversation is harder to have at a bottle shop counter.
How do I get 10% off my first order of organic Spanish wine?
Join FAB's mailing list and your first order comes with 10 percent off. Sign up at the bottom of this page before you check out. The discount applies automatically, and there is no minimum spend - though orders over $200 ship free to any address in Australia, metro or regional, which a mixed half-case comfortably reaches.
The mailing list is great being on regardless. It offers early access to new arrivals, pre-release offers, and invitations to our super-special in-store tasting events - including Iberian-focused sessions when the program allows. We do not send email for the sake of it. When something genuinely worth knowing lands in your inbox from us, it will be specific.
Standard delivery is $15 flat; express is $30 and reaches most capital city addresses within two business days. Every order leaves the Surry Hills shop or Sydney warehouse within one business day, with a tracking number sent when your order goes out. If you are ordering for a specific occasion, select express at checkout – please do not assume standard will arrive in time to avoid disappointment.
