Tasting Notes

For decades, the Fritsch family has been a beacon of quality in the Wagram region, championing the greatness of Gruner Veltliner, Riesling, Zweigelt, and Pinot Noir. From a single vineyard (Erste Lage) in Mordthal, a classical beautiful Riesling with very well integrated acidity, great meld and exceptionally long presence on the palate. Great drinking pleasure now, but with an enormous ageing potential.

James Suckling

Just a hint of funk, but there's also a slew of ripe-citrus and savory aromas here. Only medium-bodied, but with some textural complexity and minerality on the mid palate. Rather supple finish. From biodynamically grown grapes.

Karl Fritsch's Ruppertsthal 2020 Ried Mordthal 1ÖTW Riesling displays a white-golden color followed by a deep, ripe and elegant bouquet of ripe fruits and finely crushed stones. The wine is rich and round but delicate and refined thanks to its gentle yet structuring, stimulatingly salty acidity. A classic! Tasted in September 2021.

Fritsch

The Fritsch family's Weinberghof has long been a beacon of quality in the Wagram region. Karl's father was a believer in the potential of Grüner Veltliner as a top-tier variety. In 1989, he initiated the classification of "wines of quality," making Fritsch synonymous with Wagram wine excellence. Both father and son recognized Wagram's versatility, capable of producing a diverse array of outstanding wines. Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, are the standout varieties, with Grüner Veltliner covering a third of the vineyard area. Karl also has a soft spot for Pinot Noir, showcasing its potential when treated with care. This respect for nature and humanity, coupled with transparency, creativity, and an open-minded approach, has forged a unique winemaking style. Fritsch wines are known for their straightforwardness, crispness, elegance, and down-to-earth character.
