Tasting Notes

Ten-kilometers south of Beaune lies a unique Burgundian niche. Contrasting the steep terroirs of the Côte de Nuits, Montrachet presents a somewhat flat and arid expanse. Originally known as "Mont Rachet" (meaning "bald mountain"), it evolved over time to Montrachet. Legend has it that the name of this esteemed Grand Cru blanc stems from the land's division by the Lord of Montrachet between his two sons. one became a Knight "Chevalier" fighting the enemy during the Crusades.

Robert Parker

The 2016 Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru has a very concentrated and intense bouquet with citrus fruit, wild mint, orange cordial and a hint of wild heather. The palate is fresh and tensile, very concentrated with a fine line of acidity, just a hint of blackcurrant leaf and curry leaf toward the finish. This is one of the best Chevalier-Montrachet’s out there, a beautifully crafted, succinct wine that should give two decades of drinking pleasure.

Domaine de la Vougeraie

Nathalie and Jean-Charles Boisset's Domaine de La Vougeraie is a tapestry of treasured vineyards, woven together from acquisitions and the family's own inheritance. Its roots trace back to 1964 when their father purchased the Les Evocelles plot in his hometown of Gevrey-Chambertin. The subsequent decades saw expansions to Vougeot and the Côte de Beaune. By 1996, the collection further broadened near Beaune, and eventually circled back to Vougeot with the acquisition of the illustrious monopole, Le Clos Blanc, renowned for its radiant golden wines. Thus, in a journey that felt like a natural homecoming, Domaine de la Vougeraie was birthed in 1999. Named after the family residence, La Vougeraie, it signifies the lineage of Jean-Claude and Claudine Boisset and their vision carried forward by their children, Nathalie and Jean-Charles. The heart of this domain beats in Vougeot. Throughout its evolution, the Domaine's commitment to excellence and passion has remained unwavering.
