The wines of Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py are considered by Burgundy aficionados to be among the region's stars and represent an estate that produces true vin de garde. The domaine's work in the vineyard is meticulous, and Dugat-Py has been certified organic since 2003. It spans approximately 7.5 hectares of vineyards, predominantly in Gevrey-Chambertin, including four Grand Crus, and has small holdings in Vosne-Romanee, Pommard, Chassagne-Montrachet, and Meursault. Low-intervention winemaking in the cellar, coupled with relatively early grape picking, inclusion of stems, and perfectly judged oak, results in wines that clearly express their appellation and age beautifully.

Viticulture:Gevrey-Chambertin's soils dates back to the Jurassic period. The subsoil is predominantly limestone, interspersed with marl. Over time, erosion of the upper hillside resulted in a mixture of gravel, clay, and limestone on the slopes where the vineyards are planted.

The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin Petite-Chapelle contains less whole bunch than other cuvées (35% to 40%) and is matured entirely in new wood. I have to say that the new oak dominates the aromatics at the moment, and it is difficult to get through that. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. Here, the oak is more integrated and allows succulent cassis and kirsch notes to develop on the lightly peppered, weighty finish. Quite intense, it will need several years in bottle.

Nestled in the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation, the Dugat family has been iconic winegrowers since the early 17th century. Today, Bernard Dugat and his son, Loïc, representing the 13th generation, continue to honor and enhance the rich legacy, drawing from the expertise cultivated over four centuries. Their estate sits at the base of the Combe de Lavaux, near the historic heart of the village, where the Chaplaincy buildings, once owned by the Abbey St Bénigne of Dijon since the late 9th century, stand. From these ancient edifices, the estate's cellars, masterfully constructed in the 11th and 12th centuries under Chaplain Halinard's guidance, have endured. These hallowed chambers, bearing witness to nearly a millennium of winemaking history, now cradle the Dugat-Py wines as they age gracefully for 18 to 24 months. The tradition, echoing through the centuries, is very much alive under the watchful eyes of the Dugat family.
