Tasting Notes

94-96 points Jeb Dunnuck "Replacing the Petit Chapelle cuvée and first made in 2015, the 2016 Hermitage La Maison Bleue is smoking good. Black fruits, charcoal, powdered rock, currants and chocolate notes all give way to a big, concentrated, impressively structured barrel sample that has tons of potential. I expect the tannin will have integrated by the time this is released, but a few years of bottle age are still recommended."

Winemaking:Hand-picked, sorting on the plot, in small crates. The vatting period lasts around 4 weeks with gentle extractions. Aged in French oak barrels (20% new).

Viticulture:The wine hails from the hill's most easterly vineyards, where deeper, less stony soils and flatter slopes nurture 40 to 60-year-old Syrah vines.

Food Pairing:Beef sukiyaki, Beef stroganoff, Bison steak, Wagyu beef, Beef eye fillet.

This is a juicy and flavorful young wine with dusty and polished tannins. Lots of wild fruit and dark-berry and volcanic/salt undertones. Flavorful finish.

This has a sleek and fresh feel, with red currant and raspberry coulis notes melding with light violet, cedar and tobacco accents on the finish. A cedar twinge peeks through at the end, leaving a slightly grainy impression.
