Tasting Notes

A significant historical site in the Douro area is Quinta de Pedra Escrita. A inscribed stone (pedra escrita) was erected during the time the appellation's boundaries were defined as a reminder of the important places of the area. Today, Rui Roboredo Madeira descendent of a 8th generation Douro tradition, is setting the pace for the growing quality of Portuguese wines, having reached for Portugal some of the most disputed awards in the world of wines, from "Top 10 Wine Spectator" to "Best White Wine "at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. This Reserva red, is aged 12 months in brand-new barriques, reveals ripe blackberries and cherries, complemented by cedar, vanilla, and oak nuances, with hints of dried violets and spices. On the palate, it's full-bodied with a velvety texture, where dark fruits mingle with mocha and licorice. The oak's pronounced tannins add depth, leading to a lingering, spicy finish with touches of cocoa.
