Harvest:The 2020 Wachau vintage, marked by a dry winter and cool spring, produced smaller berries with concentrated flavours and excellent natural acidity. For Schmidl’s Kellerberg Riesling Federspiel, this translates into bright fruit, pronounced minerality, and a lively structure that drinks beautifully now yet will reward short-term cellaring.
Winemaking:whole cluster pressing, cool fermentation in stainless steel, aged on fine lees for several months to retain freshness and texture.
Viticulture:Ried Kellerberg is a steep, terraced south-east-facing slope in Dürnstein with soils of weathered Gföhler gneiss and pockets of loess. These ultra-shallow, mineral-rich soils, combined with the rigorous, organic viticulture at Weingut Schmidl, deliver a Riesling with precision, depth and elegant power.
Food Pairing:fresh oysters/seafood, grilled white fish, scallops, pork fillet, roast chicken, Sichuan-style or citrus-forward Asian dishes
