Tasting Notes

As the ancient books of Homer recount, the legendary Odysseus and his companions escaped the clutches of the Cyclops Polyphemus with the assistance of the 'divine wine' crafted from the Mavroudi grape variety. In homage to this episode from Homer's Odyssey, a red wine was named after this varietal Mavroudi, hailing from Thraki on the northeastern Greek mainland. This Mavroudi red wine exhibits a rich bouquet of prunes with subtle notes of blackcurrants and mild spices. It is a true crowd-pleaser, known for its harmonious and approachable character.

Robert Parker

This is fresh and lighter styled but very tasty and hard to resist. Red fruit nuances and beefy elements combine to give this some complexity. That lifts it a little above many wines of its type. It doesn't have much concentration, but the sunny demeanor and general exuberance make it a pleasure to drink. Call it a "summer red," and chill it just a little. Drink it as young as possible, at which point you'll like it better than the score suggests.
