Harvest:The 2022 growing season followed very similar conditions to 2021, though slightly cooler. There were favourable winter rains and a mild flowering and fruit set period. The cool ripening period took place between late January through to harvest in March. Yields were well balanced, and we are pleased with the fruit ripeness, intensity, freshness, and natural acidity.

Winemaking:The grapes were de-stemmed and selectively sorted before being transferred to an open fermenter for wild fermentation. After 12 days on skins, the wine was pressed into a tank and matured for 5 months in stainless steel. No additions were made throughout the entire production process. The wine was bottled in October 2022.

Viticulture:Yangarra is a single-vineyard estate situated in Blewitt Springs, at the northern edge of the McLaren Vale region, South Australia. Yangarra’s combination of ancient geology, high altitude and Mediterranean climate provide the ideal growing conditions for the best grape varieties of the southern Rhône. Along with Australia’s First Families of Wine, committed to reducing carbon emissions and reaching net carbon zero targets by 2035.

Wine Pilot

Destemmed and sorted with wild fermentation and 5 months maturation in stainless steel. Red cherries, raspberry and black currants. Harissa spice with notes of caraway, red clay and wild thyme. Black olive and blood plums. It's all about freshness in this wine and built for weeknight drinking. A spaghetti bolognese, a pepperoni pizza, this wine has its place in any home and on any occasion. The bright acidity keeps you sipping and tightly wound tannins make it ideal for red based sauces and spicy meats. Drink now.

The Wine Front

Fermented wild, basket pressed, no additives, preservative free. Fresh, well-structured, ripe but not overtly sweet in its flavour profile. This goes alright and then some. It’s a bit jubey and a bit plummy with clove and blueberry-like highlights. Nice. Good. Worth buying/drinking.

Yangarra Estate

Yangarra Estate, located in the Blewitt Springs district of McLaren Vale, South Australia, is a biodynamic vineyard renowned for its unique terroir. With 54-million-year-old geology and wind-blown sands, the region's higher elevation and cooling maritime climate create ideal conditions for growing the best grape varieties of the southern Rhône. The estate, first planted in 1946, spans 87 hectares, with Grenache and Shiraz as its flagship varieties. Since 2000, Peter Fraser has been the winemaker and visionary behind Yangarra. His approach to winemaking is focused on vineyard expression, believing that the key to great wine lies in preserving the authentic taste of the land. Peter's deep experience includes extensive time spent working in cellars and vineyards across Australia, Spain, France, and the U.S. His expertise earned him the title of 2016 Winemaker of the Year by James Halliday, and in 2018, he was nominated as Best Winemaker by Wine Enthusiast Magazine.
