Tasting Notes

Characterized by its dense color with purple and black tints, this wine carries intense aromas of blackberry and mulberry, interspersed with notes of violets. It presents as intensely dark with cherry hues, exuding complex aromas of pepper, nutmeg, and clove spices, accompanied by ripe plum, berries, and cocoa, with hints of cigar and vanilla from the oak. The palate is decidedly savory, featuring freshly cracked pepper and roast beef, along with undertones of liquorice, coffee, and cocoa. Accents of cranberry and rhubarb add to its complexity. The presence of balanced American oak provides great length and structure, culminating in a refreshing finish with bursts of plum and berry fruit.

Halliday Companion - Jeni Port

Dense purple, inky and vibrant. Yes, the durif grape can be intimidating and, yes, you read the alcohol reading right, but you are in good hands. This durif highlights the grape's shiraz parent in all its spicy savouriness: dark plums, blue fruits, mulberry intertwined with a spearmint, herbal thread. The weight of fruit and its intensity carries the alcohol well. Layered with savoury tannins. Patience required.

919 Organic Wines

Established in 1999, 919 Wines is a family-owned winery in Glossop, South Australia, that has seen significant growth. The vineyards, established in 2002 with their first vintage released in 2004, enable the winery to manage a 60-tonne grape crush, sourced from both their own vineyards and those of trusted growers. A second vineyard was acquired in 2011, promising a bright future. At the helm are Eric Semmler, Director and Chief Winemaker, known for his expertise in fortified wines, and Jenny Semmler, Company Secretary and Director, who is adept in wine flavor development. Their mission is to craft exceptional wines that reflect their region and embody values of purity, integrity, and sustainability while prioritizing customers and community support. They minimize their environmental footprint through organic grape production and reduced chemical use. Additionally, they offer moonlit picnics in their vineyards, providing a unique experience of savoring their wines under the stars, sometimes in the company of local kangaroos.
