Tasting Notes

Michel Chapoutier, an unconventional visionary, challenging tradition and passionately embracing biodynamics. Dedicated to expressing the soil's essence, his philosophy is deeply rooted in the land. Cote-Rotie La Neve 2018, presents an alluring depth, cloaked in satiny black hues. Initial aromas of graphite and cold smoke gently give way to hints of bramble leaves and a medley of berries. Upon tasting, its compact nature is revealed, accentuated by sculpted tannins and a dash of black pepper. Roasting nuances linger, culminating in a saline finish.

Harvest:Hand-picked grapes to small perforated boxes of 15 kg.

Winemaking:Grapes are completely de-stemmed. Native yeasts are used for the alcoholic fermentation. During the fermentation, the temperature is allowed to gradually rise to 30-32°C. The vatting period lasts from 4 to 5 weeks with regular pumping over operations carried out at the start of the maceration, followed by some cap punching. The maceration is completed by a stirring of the lees over the last 3 weeks.

Robert Parker

Chapoutier's 2018 Cote Rotie Neve features stunning scents of violets, purple raspberries and cassis. It's full-bodied, rich and creamy-textured in the mouth, turning silky on the finish. Concentrated but elegant, it showcases the amazing potential of the Neve lieu-dit.

Decanter Magazine

Good clarity and definition on the nose, good fruit expression, smoky raspberry and blackberry, sandalwood and tobacco. Medium-bodied, the tannins are quite discrete, very fine, rather slight. Lovely definition and freshness again on the palate, the tannins make themselves known on the finish rather than on the mid-palate. The oak regime is quite noticeable at this stage, but it doesn't dominate. Very well balanced, a wine that will drink well now and later.

M.Chapoutier

Michel Chapoutier is an emblematic figure in the world of wine, born into a long lineage of vine-growers, the Chapoutier family has been rooted in the Rhône region since 1808. Michel took over the family business, Maison M. Chapoutier, in 1990, bringing with him a revitalized approach and a deep respect for terroir and biodynamic viticulture with the entire estate being certified, a rarity for an estate of its size. His philosophy is founded on the belief that a wine should express the place from which it originates, the "terroir". This approach involves minimal intervention in both the vineyard and the winery, ensuring the wines remain true reflections of their origin. Throughout his career, Michel Chapoutier's unyielding passion, combined with his pioneering approach, has earned his wines a plethora of accolades. Today, Maison M. Chapoutier remains a beacon of the Rhône Valley, with Michel at its helm, continually pushing the boundaries of winemaking and ensuring each bottle tells the story of its terroir.
