Tasting Notes

Allegro is a naturally sparkling wine made in accordance with the 'Ancestrale' method meaning, the wine goes through a single fermentation in a bottle to obtain alcohol and mousse. Attractive perfume of strawberry kissed with lemon and faint vanilla notes. The palate is creamy but with brisk acidity, and a lovely saline tang. It feels quite complex, a touch savoury, concentrated in flavour and bustling with fine bubbles. Very fine sparkling.

The Wine Front - Mike Bennie

Quite floral, lots of orange juice and orange peel to sniff on, red cherry too. Pretty. The palate is fleshy and bright, stacked with kirsch and red berry fruitiness but an undertow of stone fruit, creaminess, a sour-sweet finish and some savouriness too. Good, vivid fizz. Complex expression of sparkling.

Castagna

Julian and Carolann Castagna left their careers in the film industry to establish Castagna Vineyard. They aimed to create unique wines capturing the essence of Côte-Rôtie, a style then rare in Australia. Located in Northeast Victoria, the vineyard, certified organic and biodynamic, features Syrah vines planted in 1997, descendants of 1850s Rhone stock. With a focus on quality over quantity, their meticulous approach includes hand-pruning, hand-picking, traditional winemaking techniques, and careful aging in French oak. The vineyard's biodynamic practices highlight the granitic-loam soil's minerality, and they utilize rare genetic material from Australia to craft exceptional wines. The vineyard's continental climate and unique soil composition further contribute to their distinctive wines. Castagna Vineyard has successfully carved out its niche in the world of wine.
